Georgian viticulture is among the oldest in the world, with roots dating back over 8,000 years. The earliest traces of winemaking reveal the use of the kvevri, large buried clay jars, marking one of the first winemaking methods in the world. Archaeological discoveries suggest that this region could be the cradle of wine and domesticated vines. Today, Georgian vineyards cover about 100,000 hectares, and the country has 540 authenticated grape varieties. A large part of the wines is still produced according to this ancestral method, perpetuating a unique know-how and a strong connection with its traditions.
